"Simple Glamour " by Feng Ye exudes astonishing energy within timeless elegance of the late Beijing Opera legend, Mei Lanfang, through the simple black and white paints. The inspiration came from the ancient classical works whereby Confucius places a special value for its strength in moral teachings as well as the intellectual stimulation. The whole idea is based on Confucius idea of "A painting is done on plain white paper, rituals and accessories are actually secondary thing. "Creating a relationship between colors and emblazoned dialectical." Just like the colour usage in traditional Chinese painting which emphasis a great deal on using simple and straight forward way to bring out the beauty and elegance of the painting. This is what Feng Ye wishes to portray is his "Beautiful without accessories" series, simple and straight forward to bring out the sophistication and beauty of his images. On the canvas, using only the simplest black and white to bring out the beauty, charm and colour of the characters and costumes of Beijing Chinese opera. The theme is about Mr. Mei Lanfang performance in Chinese Opera and the focus is in the spirit and expression less of shape and size. What Feng Ye would like to express in his painting is not about the character, Chinese Opera or Mr. Mei Langfang's stage role but the spirit of China, using a contemporary way to express his thoughts and believe.
